If a road wiggles wildly on its way across the map, I'm certain it will challenge my driving skills and satisfy my sense of adventure, but to compare the ribbon of historic Natchez Trace Parkway through Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi to the Pacific edge on California Highway 1 would do disservice to both. I've learned not to compare apples with oranges. With that in mind, these are a few of my favorite roads.

It's like viewing the perfect mural with row upon row of dazzling color— brilliant reds, sparkling yellows, vivid pinks, rakish purples. Though picture-perfect, these delightful tulip fields of the Skagit Valley in Washington are real. And so are the region’s acres of daffodils and iris. Although Mother Nature dictates the bloom dates, daffodils bloom first, followed by tulips and finally, iris.

I was enjoying an après-ski libation in the New Sheridan Hotel with my snowsliding buddies, when a commotion in the front caught our attention. Nothing unusual about a local sauntering in for a brew, except Rowdy Roudabush wasn’t bellying up to the bar atop a stool. He was in the saddle and his mount was also quenching his thirst!
