 As I write this column, the New Year’s Eve crystal ball has yet to fall on New York City and the world, but, like the sweet sound of a golf ball pinging in the bottom of a cup, the annual arrival of golf shows is about to become music to every golfer’s ear.
With worldwide appeal, golf shows can be found globally this year in Helsinki, Munich, Moscow, Beijing, Budapest, Seoul, Manila, London, Prague and Toronto, to name a few.
Many shows are scheduled in North America in the coming weeks, including locations in Seattle, Portland, Denver, Albuquerque, Chicago and Vancouver, B.C.
The poor economy in 2011 took its toll on many industries, golf notwithstanding. But the slow economy holds some benefits for golfers. Many golf courses are now partnering with local resorts and hotels and offering great deals on mini golf getaways. Look for those deals at the golf shows. In addition, retailers at the shows often offer great deals on merchandise, and many exhibiting companies feature innovative wares that you may not find in your local pro shop.
RV golfers in the Seattle area will be excited about the Seattle Golf and Travel Show, which will be held in conjunction with the 49th edition of the Seattle RV Show. Both shows will be held at CenturyLink Field Event Center in downtown Seattle on February 10-12, although the RV show will begin a day earlier, on February 9. This will be the third year the two shows have been held simultaneously. According to RV show organizer Dave Helgeson, attendees wishing to get a flavor of each event can purchase a combination RV Show/Golf Show ticket at the door for $15.
