Kitchens on the Outside

The number of RV manufacturers offering models with exterior kitchens continues to grow. EverGreen Recreational Vehicles is building an outdoor kitchen into four of its 2012 Ever-Lite travel trailer floor plans, and Thor Motor Coach has added an outdoor kitchen as an option on one of its 2012 motorhomes, the 34SS Daybreak.

Thor claims to be the first motorhome manufacturer to offer an exterior kitchen. The optional kitchen occupies the space on the passenger side of the Daybreak that would otherwise contain an oversized storage compartment.

The kitchen includes a 15,000 BTU stainless steel LP grill, a 4.6-cubic-foot mini-refrigerator and a 19-inch widescreen high definition TV. The unit’s sink drains into the motorhome’s gray water holding tank, unlike some trailers that drain water from outdoor kitchens onto the ground.

EverGreen Recreational Vehicles, which builds its travel trailers with virtually wood-free composite materials, says its new Campfire Kitchenette is built with sustainable composites, stainless steel and aluminum. The kitchenette includes a refrigerator, two-burner cooktop, stainless steel sink, liquid soap dispenser, and hooks for towels, oven mitts and cooking utensils. It also includes a spice/condiment rack, 110v-GFI power outlet, steel cabinets and aluminum drawers.

The outdoor kitchen is standard on four of Ever-Lite’s family-oriented travel trailer models. Doug Lantz, president of EverGreen, said the outdoor kitchen has been designed with premium materials and “built tough to endure years of spills, heat, weather and outdoor wear and tear.”
