When Adventurer Limited Partnership (ALP) acquired the assets of Eagle Cap truck camper last November, the challenge was to retain the qualities that had earned Eagle Cap a loyal following while adding new features and improvements.
In the new 2012 models, the challenge has been met by keeping Eagle Cap’s distinctive exterior, including its logo and molded fiberglass wrap-around front and rear end caps, and upgrading and brightening the interior.
“Our goal has been to make the interior as rich as the exterior,” said Greg Tucknies, ALP’s national sales manager.
ALP acquired the Eagle Cap brand last November, closed the factory in La Grande, Oregon, and shifted production to the Adventurer production facilities in Yakima, Washington. Tucknies said the Adventurer and Eagle Cap brands are being kept entirely separate, each with its own workers and production lines.
As before, Eagle Cap campers are built with high-gloss sidewalls on an aluminum frame, but the new models use composite materials designed to make the construction stronger and lighter.
The interiors have light cherry hardwood cabinet doors, solid granite coat counter tops, a Dream Dinette, Norcold six-cubic-foot double-door refrigerator, three-burner cooktop and oven, along with many other features.
Eagle Cap truck campers are available in overall lengths from 17 feet, three inches to 19 feet, 8 inches. Most models have full-wall or dinette slideouts. There is also a double slideout floor plan, and a triple slide will be available soon.
The smallest camper, the 850, has a dinette slideout and is available in both long and short box versions. The suggested retail price is $25,900.
Tucknies said that initial reaction to the new Eagle Cap truck campers has been so strong that production has doubled. One man, he said, drove all the way from North Carolina to Oregon just to reach a dealer where he could buy the 850 model. “People who have bought an Eagle Cap in the past want an Eagle Cap,” he said.
