The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association has directed all of its members nationwide to adopt the new standards set by the State of California to reduce formaldehyde emissions in RVs. California’s environmental protection agency has determined that formaldehyde emissions can produce harmful health effects. |

Winnebago Industries announced that it will shut down its manufacturing plant in Charles City, Iowa, in August and shift production of Class C motorhomes to its facilities in Forest City, Iowa. The shutdown will eliminate the jobs of about 270 salaried and hourly employees. |

The new Santa Fe Geocaching Challenge takes participants on a tour of the historic downtown of New Mexico’s capital and gives them a chance to win prizes. Participants can pick up a free Santa Fe Adventure Passport at the Santa Fe Visitors Center or by downloading it at www.santafe.org. Then, by using a GPS device, they can find eight geocaching sites and have their game passport stamped at each to redeem gifts at the Visitors Center. A visit to all eight locations takes several hours and involves about two miles of walking. |

The Grand Canyon Railway has initiated a twice-daily round trip train tour from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon through Coconino Canyon. The 90-minute ride goes through a portion of the largest Ponderosa pine forest in the world. |

The State of Washington has initiated a new program to provide free campsites for foster children and children who live with relative caregivers. Campsites fees, which range from $20 to $37 a night, are waived for qualifying families, although a reservation fee of $7 to $9 still applies. For camping information, visit www.parks.wa.gov or call (360) 902-8844. Campsite reservations may be made by calling (888) CAMPOUT between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily. |

Winnebago Debuts 2009 Models Nearly half of Winnebago’s motorhomes will be new or redesigned for 2009, the company reported. The 2009 lineup, which was introduced at the Winnebago dealer convention in Las Vegas in May, includes increased differentiation between the Winnebago and Itasca brands. The company said it will hold the line on prices on Class A diesel products despite significant upgrades. |

Endurance Ride Planned More than 50 riders and horses will embark August 31 on a 515-mile endurance race retracing a portion of the historic Santa Fe Trail. RVers are being invited to follow along with the riders. |
