Desert Gardens RV ParkAt the Village of Cactus Forest, colossal saguaros tower over barrel cacti, prickly pears and other trees and shrubs in an Arizona desert landscape that stretches as far as the eye can see.

Here at Desert Gardens RV Park, there are no walls around the park, so you have an unobstructed view of sunrises and sunsets as you gaze across the ancient Sonoran Desert to the distant mountains. You can watch cottontails and ground squirrels scurry about, and see baby quail skirt around the mesquite and palo verde trees. You can enjoy songbirds, hummingbirds and butterflies and catch sight of roadrunners and jack rabbits.

Owners Eric and Marcy Nelson, who have years of experience designing RV parks in New England, came to Arizona and chose this setting five miles south of Florence to build their own RV park, offering sites both for rental and cooperative ownership.  The RV sites have been carefully laid out to avoid disturbing the saguaros and sensitive cacti and plants.

Besides the magnificent setting, Marcy Nelson said one advantage of the location is its deep well, producing water so pure and satisfying that there is no need for guests to tote bottled water.

Desert Gardens RV ParkDesert Gardens’ many amenities include a large clubhouse for activities and crafts, a heated pool and spa, fitness center, a woodworking shop and a game room. It also includes a meditation garden, picnic and lounging areas, fountains, decorative palm trees and groomed walking trails. Desert Gardens has earned inclusion in Trailer Life’s list of the 300 best RV parks in the nation.

The 72-acre park has 266 RV sites, ranging from 40 feet by 50 feet to 80 feet by 85 feet, all with 50-amp service and two phone landlines. The park leases an additional 71 acres of adjacent land for walking trails and seclusion.

The park is open to RV stays by the day, week or month, and to co-op ownership. Lots are available at prices starting at $14,900, and you can buy a site with a park model for as little as $44,900.

Desert Gardens’ season runs from October to mid-April. RVers who stay for five months have the option of leaving their RV in the park’s secure storage area over the summer.
