Although George O’Leary built his two RV resorts, Rincon Country East and Rincon Country West, in Tucson, Arizona, about 30 years ago, they never show their age.

“You go into a park that is 30 years old and it usually looks it,” said Rincon Country West office manager Annette Sounnakhone.  “Ours look brand new.” That’s because owner O’Leary never stops working to improve the parks. “He’s out there on a tractor right now,” Sounnakhone said.

O’Leary, who was born in Ireland, came to the U.S. in 1956 and started a construction business three years later. In 1979, he built Rincon Country East on the southeast side of Tucson, and it was such a success that he built an even larger park, Rincon Country West, on the southwest side in 1983.

The parks have all the fine amenities you would expect in a top rated resort (10/10/10 for Rincon Country East in the Trailer Life rating system and 9.5/10/10 for Rincon Country West). There are heated swimming pools, libraries, laundry rooms, card rooms, exercise facilities and a wide range of classes and activities. You can play tennis, billiards, bocce ball and horseshoes, and the facilities at Rincon Country West also include a basketball court and putting green.

Beyond that, there are some innovations.  At one area of Rincon Country West, for example, you can park your RV beside a small open square with grass and trees. In this configuration, described as a “Deluxe Courtyard Pull Through,” an RV site has been created on each side of the square. There are six of these squares, each accommodating four RVs.

O’Leary created the squares to appeal to RVers—particularly those from the East and Pacific Northwest—who want to see more greenery than is usually found in an Arizona RV park. The configuration is also appealing to people who are traveling in a group of two or more RVs and want to park next to each other in an attractive setting.

The parks are continuously being improved. At Rincon Country West this year, they are adding a backup electrical system that requires 18,000 linear feet of 2 1/2-inch conduit to make sure that primary electrical service is uninterrupted for the next 50 years. These improvements are being done ahead of a $250,000 resurfacing of the main boulevard. Also in the works is a remodeling of most of the rooms in the recreation complex. Some of these improvements may seem mundane, but they all help to keep the parks in tiptop shape.

Rincon Country East has 460 spaces and Rincon Country West has nearly 1,100. In addition to RV sites, there are park models for rent and for sale. For information on the parks, visit rinconcountry.com.
