Earthmate Lowers GPS Price
Delorme, which introduced Global Positioning Systems (GPS) for laptop computers in the 1990s, has introduced a new device, the GPS LT-20, which offers a navigation system for $99.95.
The device plugs into the users laptop PC, which provides the GPS display. Street Atlas USA software is included. The system guides travelers with voice navigation, back-on-track routing, a high-contrast screen setting to overcome in-vehicle glare, and large arrows and directions to point out upcoming turns. The street and road atlas includes more than 4 million points of interest. The Earthmate GPS LT-20 is available at computer retail stores and directly from Delorme online at www.delorme.org or by calling (800) 561-5105.
Device Detects Propane Leaks
Innotek Corporation of Spokane, Washington, has introduced a new portable gas detector that can be used to identify propane leaks in RVs. The unit, which is powered by two AAA batteries is 7 /12 inches long and weighs 3 ounces. It is small enough to fit into cramped areas where gas connections and fittings are often located, and is also a convenient size to store.
Innotek Corporation, which was founded in 1996, also offers carbon monoxide detectors and wireless smoke detectors. For information, contact Innotek Corporation, 11616 E. Montgomery, Suite 4, Spokane, WA 99206. See www.innotekcorp.com or call (877) 476-8133.
Internet Service Targets RVers
Spacenet has introduced a new high-speed satellite Internet service for RVers. The service via the StarBand Manual-Flyer or the StarBand Auto Flyer provides travelers with access to the Internet as they travel throughout the U.S.
With the Manual-Flyer, the user sets up the system and aligns the dish toward the StarBand satellite after reaching a destination. The Auto-Flyer is more expensive but comes with an automated satellite dish that aligns with the click of a button. The service is up to 20 times faster than a dial-up connection. For information, contact Spacenet, 1750 Old Meadow Road, McLean, VA 22120. Phone (800) 4STARBAND or see www.starband.com.
Workhorse Offers Custom Kit
Workhorse Parts has unveiled an all-wheel air-bag suspension system that is being sold as an aftermarket customization kit for motorhomes built on the Workhorse W20, W22 and W24 chassis.
The Stabil-Air Suspension System includes a device to monitor conditions on the road and to make adjustments to the ride. Four air bags are outboard-mounted to help resist rocking and body sway. The system can automatically level the motorhome at the push of a button at a campsite or in parking lots. It allows the owner to raise the motorhome for greater ground clearance or lower the motorhome for lower height clearance. List price for the product is $5,395, plus 20 hours labor. For information about the system, see the Workhorse Web site at www.workhorse.com.
