Golfing in the High Desert

Golden Village Palms, the largest RV resort in Southern California, has just about every activity imaginable in its multi-million dollar recreational complex, but one of its biggest attractions is off the site.

Thousands of visitors come to this gated luxury resort in Hemet every year for golf, and although no golf course is attached to the resort, nearly a dozen courses are only five minutes to a half-hour away. Eight more courses are within a 45-minute drive.

Golden Village Palms RV Resort is near Palm Springs, but in a High Desert area known for its reasonably priced golf, with rounds, including golf cart, available for as little as $32. The resort takes advantage of its location by organizing golf programs for both men and women from November to March. Golfers can sign up to be placed into foursomes with assigned tee times and special green fees. The programs are open to guests at all handicap levels, whether staying for a few days or the whole winter. Golfers can practice on the resort’s nine-hole putting green.

In addition to organized events, guests also have the option of playing on their own at any of the area’s golf courses, and many courses offer reduced rates to guests at Golden Village Palms.

Golf is just one of an endless list of activities and entertainment available at this 55-acre resort. There are three pools that are temperature-controlled year-round, three hot spas, a fitness center, club and rally rooms, a grand ballroom, a TV lounge with a wide-screen TV, craft and hobby rooms, horseshoes, and a fitness center. There are even two volleyball courts that receive heavy use from the resort’s very active clientele.

A partial list of the arts and crafts available includes sewing, quilting, needlecraft, doll-making, scrapbooking, creative writing and many forms of painting. And if you can’t find exactly the activity you are looking for, more are available at the City of Hemet’s senior center.

The resort is conveniently located for numerous recreational activities. You can go fishing in five lakes, take a balloon ride, tour the wine country, and try your luck at a casino. Nearby Diamond Valley Lake is Southern California’s largest man-made reservoir and is surrounded by 22 miles of hiking and biking trails. The resort is within driving range of Disneyland, Legoland California and the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park.

When you arrive at Golden Village Palms, you are greeted by an impressive array of palm trees that line the drive, and by grounds that are landscaped with thousands of plants and trees. There are 1,019 RV sites offering full hookups, including wireless Internet access, and concrete patios. Many of the sites are pull-throughs.

The resort has a full-time events coordinator to help guests plan activities and excursions.
Among the many special features is a championship shuffleboard pavilion with eight courts, theater seating for 350, and a private kitchen.

Dancers will find special enjoyment in the resort’s ballroom, which has a custom-built floating hardwood floor. The clubhouse includes a large library, and there is also a billiard room with nine regulation tournament tables. Exercise classes and the services of a personal trainer are available at a state-of-the-art fitness center.

In addition to accommodations for RVs, the resort also offers furnished park model homes.
