Host Creates Triple Slide
If you are seeking a truck camper with lots of floor space, you might take a look at Hosts new Everest, a 2008 model billed as the first triple slideout in the industry.
Slideouts extend the kitchen wall on the curbside of the camper, the dinette wall on the street side and an overhead cabinet and sofa at the rear. Greg Tucknies, Host national sales manager, said the unprecedented three slideouts provide a third more space than a standard camper.
Beyond that, the Everest has three times the basement storage and double the holding tank capacity of the typical camper, he said. The holding tanks can handle 70 gallons of fresh water and 38 gallons each of gray and black water.
The Everest is eight feet wide, with a floor length of 11 feet, six inches. The slideouts extend the camper 14 inches on the kitchen side, 28 inches on the dinette side and 20 inches at the rear.
The interior includes a large bath with a tub/shower combination. The base price on the Everest is $32,060. The dinette slideout is standard; adding the rear and kitchen wall slideouts costs $4,690.
Tucknies said Host created the camper by drawing on its experience in developing a new Class C four-wheel drive motorcoach. We went to a stronger box tube aluminum framing similar to our motor coach in order to provide superior structural strength, he said. The new structure also has the advantage of being comparatively light in weight, he said. The standard unit with one slideout has a dry weight of 3,295 pounds.
