Winnebago Ups Engine Power
Winnebago Industries has upgraded the chassis in its popular Winnebago View and Itasca Navion Class C motorhomes for 2008. A new Dodge Sprinter chassis with a longer wheelbase, beefier frame and a more powerful diesel engine underpins the new models, and Winnebago has added a gasoline engine as an option for the first time.
The new models come with a 3-liter V6 Mercedes Benz diesel engine, which is an upgrade from the 2.7-liter, 5-cylinder engine on the 2007 models. The new engine uses clean air technology that emits just 1/60th of the soot of a 1988 diesel motorhome.
In addition, buyers now have the option of a 3.5L V6 gasoline engine that generates 254 horsepower.
The new Sprinter chassis carries a gross vehicle weight rating of 11,030 pounds, up more than 800 pounds from 2007. The View and Navion feature a five-speed transmission, independent front suspension, ABS four-wheel disc brakes and a 3,500-pound trailer hitch.
Three floor plans, each 24 feet in length, are available. One has bunk beds in the rear of the coach, two sofas up front that convert to beds, and a dining table that can be placed between the sofas. Two other floor plans have slideouts that provide extra space. All three plans have a front bunk that features a hinged 45-inch by 75-inch mattress that lifts up to provide more room in the cab while driving. A multi-function roof vent has a sliding screen and sliding pleated shade.
All models come with a fully equipped galley that includes a stainless steel Biraldi range hood, three-burner range top, microwave/convection oven, and refrigerator/freezer.
The manufacturers suggested base retail prices range from $86,880 to $88,710 for the Winnebago View and $87,244 to $89,018 for the Itasca Navion.
