Spot Service Billed as Lifesaver
If you get lost or stranded in a remote area, there is now a device that can direct rescuers to your exact location. The Spot satellite messenger is a personal tracker that uses GPS technology.
The user can press a button to send a message to a 911 emergency call center or press another button to send a request for help to friends and family. The device also can be used to notify contacts that you are OK, or to allow contacts to check your location online, using Google maps.
Spot uses a commercial satellite network that can track users throughout the U.S. and much of the world, including many places beyond the reach of cellular phone service. The Spot satellite messenger is available through sporting goods, wireless and electronics retailers and at www.findmespot.com. The online price is $169.99. The annual service fee is $99.99. Optional features include an automatic tracking service for $49.99 a year and a private rescue service for places with non-responsive emergency service for $7.95 a year. Spot Inc. is a subsidiary of Globalstar, which provides satellite voice and data services.
LightShip Uses Solar Power
You can add solar-powered LED lights to your RV to provide additional internal lighting by sticking a LightShip to any window with good sun access. The LightShip has three suction cups to securely attach it to a smooth surface.
The LightShip includes a tiny solar panel, rechargeable NiMH battery pack and white and red LEDs. Anytime there is sunlight, the device is charging, and an eight-hour charge in medium to bright sunlight is enough to keep the light on all night.
The LightShip is available in red, blue, yellow, green and clear colors for $15.95. For information, contact Simply Brilliant, 1832 Cascade Avenue, Hood River, OR 97031. Phone (888) 557-6464 or visit www.sollight.com.

Water Hose Is Heated
For RVers in cold weather climates, the Conrad Company of Columbus, Ohio, has developed a water hose that is designed to keep water from freezing as it travels from a spigot to an RV.
The electrically heated water hose connects like any ordinary hose, but also plugs into a standard electrical outlet. The waterproof heated circuit is wrapped around a 3/4-inch, heavy-duty hose that is thermally insulated.
Edward Conrad, president of the Conrad Company, said the hose was created in response to requests from RV users, but also has applications for use at job site trailers, small farms and other locations. The hoses are available in a variety of lengths at prices starting at $320. For information, visit www.nofreezewaterhose.com or call (888) 878-7056.
